How to check a qualification
The chamber register, Meister, and the five public searches.
What the register is
The Handwerksrolle is the roll kept by the local Handwerkskammer, the chamber of trades. A business that wants to practise certain trades has to be entered there. The public search is the check. A line on this website is not that check.
Viewed 9 October 2026. The statute that sets up the roll is the Handwerksordnung: Handwerksordnung.
Meister is a qualification, not a badge from us
Meister means the person passed the master-craftsperson examination. Meisterbetrieb on a card means the business presents itself that way. We do not award that word and we do not rank firms. If you need to know whether the entry exists, use the chamber search and read what the chamber shows for that name.
Innung
An Innung is a guild, a voluntary grouping of firms. Membership is not the same thing as an entry on the Handwerksrolle. Ask the guild or the chamber if you need that distinction for a particular firm.
The five searches for the cities on this site
Each list page names the chamber the names were taken from. The search forms are here.
